Perform close up, sleight of hand and manipulation, parlor, stage
and escapes
I was born in Ogden Utah in 1959 and lived here all my life. My brothers
introduced me to magic when I was 5 years old. My first show was when
I was in first grade in a school assembly at Polk Elementary. In second
grade I learned about Harry Houdini and became interested in escapes.
I learned how to escape from my first pair of handcuffs in third grade.
My first real escape was when my older brother was mad at a friend
and me and tied us up in our garage. After I escaped and my friend
couldn’t, I studied escapology along with magic. I am mostly
self-taught from books; reviewing T.V. shows videos and at one time
took lessons from Marveen, the magician at the Fun Shop.
I continued to perform through Jr. High and High school. By this time
I had incorporated a bird routine in my show. I had also began building
my own illusions, the first of which was my own design for the metamorphosis
illusion or substitution trunk.
After high school I went to Japan on an LDS mission. While there,
I traveled throughout the mission performing magic.
After I came home, I married Susan and had 4 great children. CarriAnn,
Eric, Jeff and Kayla. All of which have helped me in one way or the
other with my magic. At this point I had added many large illusions
to my show which included the Asrah levitation, sword box, cage illusion,
dancing handkerchief and more escapes just to name a few. Escape include;
handcuffs, ropes chains, a welded box, guillotine and a straight jacket
while hanging upside down 80 feet in the fair from a crane, with more
to come.
I have been a member of the Society of American Magicians or S.A.M
for many years. I have had articles published in M.U.M., the S.A.M.’s
monthly magazine and in Genii the International Conjuror’s Magazine
and performed at the Magic Castle in Hollywood.
My goal now is to further the art of magic here in Utah by supporting
NUMA, teaching, producing magic shows and establish something similar
to the Magic Castle here in Utah.
